EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE golf breaks from traditional tournament play to take part in the Carpenter/Chaney Match Play Classic, jointly hosted by UT Martin and Morehead State Monday and Tuesday.
As a tune-up for this year's Ohio Valley Conference Championship final round, the Cougars will join seven of the eight other OVC schools for the match play tournament at Tunica National in Tunica, Mississippi.
This is the inaugural event, named for legendary OVC head golf coaches Jerry Carpenter (UT Martin from 2002-20) and Dr. Rex Chaney (Morehead State from 1976-2014). That duo combined for five OVC championships and six OVC Coach of the Year awards while overseeing six OVC Championship medalists and four OVC Golfers of the Year.
SIUE will pair with Morehead State in Monday's first round. The first tee time is 8:45 a.m. After the first round, each team will play three matches with a winner's side and consolation side. First round matchups were set based on GolfStat rankings.
