EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - A shot from 30 yards out at the 88:24 mark was the game winner Sunday as Southeast Missouri edged SIUE women's soccer 1-0 at Korte Stadium.
Maddie Paulson placed a shot just above the outreached fingers of SIUE goalkeeper
Taylor Spiller in the waning seconds. Zoe Houston was credited with an assist on the play.
"We're in the process of figuring out how to win a game when it's not our best day," said SIUE Head Coach
Derek Burton. "It definitely wasn't. We weren't very sharp for whatever reason."
SIUE dropped to 4-5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference. SEMO improved to 6-3-2 and 2-1-1 in the OVC.
Kasey Neidhardt led the Cougars with three shots followed by two from
Kelsey Kehoe.
"We had the ball in a lot of good areas, but our final pass kind of let us down," said Burton.
Spiller finished the game with seven saves while SEMO goalkeeper collected four.
Next up for the Cougars in a 5 p.m. contest Thursday at home against Tennessee Tech.
