BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – A pair of SIUE men's soccer players have been honored as the first ever Ohio Valley Conference men's soccer Players of the Week.

Aaron Crabtree (Manchester, England) has been named Defensive Player of the Week, while Sam Gomez (St. Louis) has been tabbed as Goalkeeper of the Week.

The two join Houston Christian's D'Alessandro Herrera, who was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week.

Crabtree played 175 of a possible 180 minutes on SIUE's back line during the season's opening weekend which saw the Cougars go 2-0-0. In Sunday's 3-1 win over Butler, Crabtree helped keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the final 45 minutes after the game was tied 1-1 at halftime. He took one shot in Thursday's season-opening win at Central Arkansas.

Gomez started both matches in goal, making a combined nine saves over the two wins.

The Cougars return to the pitch Saturday in St. Louis for the Bronze Boot Game against Saint Louis at CITYPARK. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
