FORT WAYNE, Ind. – SIUE volleyball closed out the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational on Saturday at Gates Sports Center. The Cougars earned their third consecutive victory of the weekend in four frames over Purdue Fort Wayne with set scores of 25-19, 25-27, 25-19, and 25-17.
Following the win, SIUE concludes the nonconference season 6-6 overall. Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 5-6.
SIUE used a .317 attack percentage, its highest clip of the season, while holding the Mastodons to a .162 hitting percentage. The Cougars collected 10 blocks in the contest, marking the eighth time SIUE has recorded 10 or more this season.
Inside the Numbers:
- SIUE has now won five of its last six contests to close nonconference play. The Cougars exited the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational without a loss, marking the first tournament since 2019 that SIUE tallied three victories in a weekend.
- The Cougars' 63 kills mark a season high in four set matches.
- Four student-athletes finished the match with a double-double: Julia Treichel, Alyse Drifka, Sydney Hummert, and Grace Beekman.
- Hummert's 16 kills led SIUE while tying a season-high mark. She concluded the contest with a .312 attack percentage. The junior ranks second on the Cougars with 115 kills this season and her 2.56 kills per set leads the squad.
- Treichel (13), Priscilla Jones (13), and Bree Schreimann (11) also recorded double-digit kills in the win.
- Drifka led the setting efforts for SIUE, dishing out a season-best 29 assists. Beekman contributed 21 assists.
- At the net, Priscilla Jones and Elana Fuller picked up five blocks apiece. Fuller's block total tied a career high mark for the graduate student.
- On defense, Abi Banitt and Treichel led SIUE with 12 digs each. Banitt leads SIUE this season with 158 digs this season.
- At the service line, Hummert and Banitt tallied two aces apiece. Hummert leads the Cougars with 20 aces this season.
All-Tournament Team:
- Sydney Hummert was named the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational MVP after posting 37 kills, 10 aces, 26 digs, seven blocks, and 51.0 points over the weekend. She concluded her weekend with back-to-back double-doubles against Valparaiso and Purdue Fort Wayne.
- Savannah Christian also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team following 32 kills, a .443 attack percentage, seven blocks, and 35.5 points over three games. She picked up double-digit kills against Miami (Ohio) and Valparaiso.
- Rounding out SIUE's All-Tournament selections is Julia Treichel, who tallied 38 kills, 31 digs, eight blocks, and 44.0 points over the weekend. She picked up a double-double in all three matches over the weekend.
