CARBONDALE, Ill. - SIUE women's soccer outshot SIU Carbondale 8-5 Thursday but dropped a 2-1 decision at Saluki Stadium.
Neither team was able to score in the opening half, but SIU Carbondale struck at 47:06 by McKensey Bunch and at 54:56 by Hannah Elkebir
Taryn Moore scored in the 74th minute for SIUE as the Cougars surged late. Moore's goal was bottom right off a pass from
Savannah DeFini.
It was Moore's first goal of the season and DeFini's second assist.
Macie Begley led the Cougars in shots with three. Moore, Begley and
Mackenzie Hayes each had one shot on goal.
Abby Haskell provided a clean sheet in goal during the first half.
Samaya Hogg recorded the only SIUE save in goal during the second half. Fabiana Solano finished with two saves for the Salukis.
SIUE, 1-3-2, closes out the nonconference regular season Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest at Korte Stadium when the Cougars entertain Indiana State.
