EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE battled through five sets in their second game of the Cougar Classic. The Cougars (2-6) took on the Murray State (4-4). SIUE won the first and third sets (25-20,25-23) while the Racers took sets two, four, and five (25-18,25-16,15-8). First Community Arena was packed for women's volleyball second home game, filling the court with excitement.
Freshman middle blocker
Taya Nordmann had a strong performance with 15 kills hitting at a .103 clip and recording six block assists. Bree Schreiman contributed to three of these blocks and also had 13 kills at a .429 clip. Nordmann and Schreiman led the team in kills this match, with
Nicole Medlin following at nine kills. Medlin also recorded five blocks.
Outside hitter
Nina Parker recorded a new personal best of five total blocks against the Racers.
Alyse Drifka carried the team with 23 assists. While
Olivia Hogan contributed 22 total digs. While
Corinna Jones had 19 assists, and eight digs.
After going five sets against the Racers the Cougars will be back in First Community Arena to finish off the Cougar Classic. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
