MARTIN, Tenn. – SIUE women's soccer completed the regular season Sunday and will next turn it focus to the Ohio Valley Conference Championships beginning Thursday this week.
The Cougars will travel to St. Charles, Missouri, the site of third-seeded Lindenwood. SIUE, the No. 7 seed for the OVC Championships, is scheduled to play sixth-seeded UT Martin in a 3 p.m. contest Thursday. The winner of that contest faces Lindenwood in a 1 p.m. game next Sunday for the OVC Quarterfinals.
SIUE, 3-11-4 overall and 2-4-3 in the OVC, and UT Martin closed out the regular season in on a rain-soaked Skyhawk Soccer Field with the Cougars dropping the finale 5-1.
Akeelah Omokhua scored for the SIUE, the first goal of her collegiate career. She scored with 33 seconds left in the contest on an assist by Marin Vines.
SIUE outshot UT Martin in the second half 11-10 after yielding 14 shots in the first half. Savannah DeFini led the Cougars in shots with three.
UT Martin, 3-3-3 in OVC play and 3-11-4 overall, had five different goal scorers in the contest. SIUE goalkeepers Sarah Bozeman and Tavey Duncan combined for 11 saves.
