EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's basketball Head Coach
Samantha Quigley Smith has, announced the addition of transfer wind/forward Adebukola Akomolafe (El Paso, Texas).
Akomolafe joins the Cougars after three seasons at Virginia Commonwealth University. During the 2024-25 season she appeared in 23 games.
"We are so excited to add Bukola to our family," Smith said. "Her drive and determination will be a great asset. Bukola's versatility, and experience playing in the A10, will be unique and hard to guard in the OVC. Besides the basketball aspect, Bukola comes from a great hard-working family and will bring that work ethic to our returning group. Cannot wait to have her on campus this summer."
Before joining the A10 Akomolafe played for Americas High School and Team Fusion. She was named to the TGCA 6A All-State and to the UIL 6A All-Region I Team. Akomolafe helped lead her team to the district 1-6A Championship. She averaged 11 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game.
Akomolafe will be studying a Masters of Kinesiology in Exercise Physiology and is the first off season addition announced by Smith and her staff. Akomolafe officially signed with the Cougars April 24, 2025.
