EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Five SIUE softball players were named Academic All-District Tuesday by College Sports Communicators, which recognizes student-athletes for their performance on the field and in the classroom.
Kaylin Fahy,
Emma Henderson,
Piper Montgomery,
Kaylynn Salyars and
Kiana Villa were selected All-District. All individuals had to have competed in at least 90 percent of games and achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.500.
A nursing major, Fahy holds a 3.63 grade point average. Fahy batted .265 and appeared in all 54 games for the Cougars. She scored 33 runs, third best on the squad, while hitting three home runs and driving in 17 RBIs.
An exercise science major, Henderson holds a 3.828 GPA. Henderson was a double threat for the Cougars in the circle and at the plate. She posted an 8-5 record with a 4.33 ERA while hitting .283. She broke the SIUE Division I era record for home runs in a season with 13.
An exercise science major, Montgomery holds a 3.806 GPA. Montgomery hit .282 with two home runs and 17 RBIs. She led the Cougars and was nationally ranked in walks drawn with 27.
A sociology major, Salyars holds a 3.952 GPA. Salyars led the Cougars in several offensive categories, including batting average (.384), runs scored (43), hits (66), doubles (16) and total bases (100).
An integrative studies major, Villa holds a 3.900 GPA. Villa finished the season with a 6-1 record and a 3.65 earned run average. She appeared in 24 contests and tossed 69 innings for the Cougars.
The full Academic All-American list will be announced in June.Â
