EIU Tops Cougars 2-0

CHARLESTON, Ill. – SIUE women's soccer opened the Ohio Valley Conference regular season Sunday with a 2-0 loss at Eastern Illinois.

SIUE, 1-8-1 overall and 0-1 in the OVC, recorded seven shots in the loss with two each from Amanda Dean and Zoe Bumiller. Taylor Babb, Audrey Roberts and Claire Nieroda also had shots for SIUE.

Eastern Illinois improved to 4-4-2 overall and 1-0 in the OVC, scoring in both halves. Katiebeth May scored with just less than two minutes to play in the first half with a shot to the upper right corner past SIUE goalkeeper Sarah Bozeman.

The Panthers added an insurance goal late on a score by Abby Reinl.

The Cougars now return to Edwardsville for their OVC home opener Thursday. SIUE faces Tennessee Tech in a 7 p.m. contest, highlighted by Homecoming and Hispanic Heritage Kick Off at Korte Stadium.
