EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Southern Indiana used a dominant second quarter to pull away and defeat SIUE women's basketball in a 67-46 loss Saturday night.
SIUE falls to 10-12 overall and 3-9 in Ohio Valley Conference play, while Southern Indiana improves to 15-6 overall and 9-3 in league action.
The Cougars and Screaming Eagles were tied 15-15 after the opening quarter, with SIUE showing early energy on both ends. However, USI went on a 17-point run and built a 36-21 halftime lead.
Ava Gugliuzza led SIUE with 13 points off 4-of-10 shooting, including three three-pointers, while
Syanne Mohamed grabbed 15 boards and contributed nine points.
USI had six players scoring in double figures, led by Ali Saunders with 12 points shooting 4-of-14 of her shots.
USI shot 40.7 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three-point range, while SIUE was held to 29.1 percent shooting and 20.8 percent from beyond the arc.
Next, the Cougars prepare to take on Lindenwood in an early week game Feb. 3. Tip off is set for 5 p.m.
