Late Run Lifts Lindenwood Over SIUE

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – SIUE women's basketball battled through a close game with Lindenwood but fell 82-69 in the final quarter.
 
SIUE is now 10-13 overall and 3-10 in Ohio Valley Conference play. Lindenwood improves to 17-7 overall and 9-4 in OVC play.
 
The Cougars had their second game this season with four players scoring in double figures. Kiyoko Proctor led the team with 16 points. Adebukola Akomolafe had 13 points and grabbed five rebounds, Ava Gugliuzza put up 12 points and Lauren Miller had 11 points with five rebounds and four assists.
 
The Lions built an early lead, ending the first quarter 21-15. The Cougars responded, starting the second quarter with an eight-point run to take a short lead, 23-21. The lead changed seven times before Lindenwood put themselves up one point before halftime 37-36.
 
Kiyoko Proctor started the third quarter with a layup off a fast break and a three pointer, Ava Gugliuzza followed with a three-pointer of her own to put the Cougars up 46-41.
 
The game tied up for the final time at 63-63 with 6:06 remaining in the fourth quarter, before Lindenwood went on a 19-6 run to win the game.
 
As a team SIUE made 49 percent (27-55) of their shots from the field, 37.5 percent (9-24) from three-point range and 6.7 percent (6-9) from the line. Lindenwood made 53.7 percent (29-54) of their shots from the field, 42 percent (8-19) from beyond the arc and 88 percent (16-18) from the line.
 
The Cougars head to Little Rock Feb. 7. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
