MADISON, Wis. - Ben Bishop collected three wins Saturday to highlight the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's track and field team at the Badger Open.
The event was a quadrangular indoor meet with host Wisconsin collecting the victory with 196 points. They were followed by Marquette with 123, Milwaukee with 98 and SIUE with 86.
Bishop won the weight throw (65 feet, 11.5 inches), the shot put (55-2.75) and the discus (181-2). The indoor discus mark is a new school record and defeated his nearest competitor at the meet by 22 feet. Bishop had three throws in the discus which bested the field.
Sophomore Maurice Jackson turned in a personal best in the triple jump. His jump of 45-1 edged out Milwaukee's Jake Whitewater and SIUE's Andrew Thierry for the event win.
SIUE freshman William Lindsey took second in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles and finished third overall. His time of 8.21 in the preliminaries was an SIUE best. He also placed sixth in the 60-meter dash in his first collegiate meet.
Alphonso Shepherd and Marc Presley finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 600-meter run. Shepherd's time was 1 minute, 22.62 seconds followed by Presley's 1:23.81.
Freshman Brad Walwer took sixth in the mile at 4:34.62. Eric Mammoser placed fifth in the pole vault with a leap of 15-3.
