Box Score ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis took advantage of Southern Illinois
University Edwardsville's cold shooting night for a 62-30 victory
at Chaifetz Arena.
The Cougars, 2-15, shot 12 of 64 from the field and 2 of 15 from
three-point range. SIUE's Ashley Bey ended up as
the game's leading scorer with 12 points. She added five rebounds
and three steals.
SLU used a 55-29 rebounding advantage to take control of the
tempo of the game. SIUE pushed back by forcing 25 turnovers from
the Billikens, which hold a 6-9 record, while only committing
12.
Raven
Berry also finished in double digits for the Cougars with 10
points. She missed her third double-double of the season by a
single rebound.
SIUE Coach Amanda Levens said
that with a better shooting night the game would have been much
closer. "I thought we played very good defense in the first half,"
said SIUE Coach Amanda Levens.
Saint Louis scored 27 in the first half.
Levens pointed to positives like gaining the same number of free
throws as the Billikens (18) as well as the turnover ratio. SIUE
garnered 11 steals, including four from freshman Michaela
Herrod.
Janisha Gearlds and Katie Paganelli tied for the team high in
scoring with 11 points each for the Billikens. Kathryn Hester added
10 points.
Levens said SIUE's shooting woes continued early in the second
half. "It eventually affected our defense," she added.
Next up for SIUE is a trip to Northern Kentucky next Wednesday.
Game time in Highland Hts., Ky., is 7 p.m. ET.
