LINCOLN, Neb. - The SIUE men's and women's track and field teams compete for the first time in 2012 this weekend at the Holiday Inn Invitational from Devaney Center Indoor Track on the campus of the University of Nebraska.

"All of the athletes are excited about competing at such a great venue," said SIUE Head Coach Kareem Jackson. "Now that the holiday break and first semester have passed, we are all looking forward to each weekend bringing new experiences."

One member of the Cougar squad looking to continue a tremendous start to his career is freshman La'Derrick Ward. The Cahokia native was named Ohio Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Ward told Coach Jackson "he feels like he is in the best shape he has ever been in, and that he is looking forward to jumping on the big stage."

The action gets underway Friday evening and continues through Saturday afternoon. The host Huskers are currently ranked No. 5 in the country on the men's side and No. 25 for the women.
