BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – In a battle of two teams ranked in the top 25, Indiana used home field advantage in a 2-0 victory over SIUE in men's college soccer action.

The Cougars, ranked No. 22 in the latest NSCAA national poll, outshot the Hoosiers 11-8 and finished with one more shot on goal than their opponents Friday night at Jerry Yeagley Stadium. SIUE, now 5-2, lost for just the second time this season, both losses coming against nationally-ranked teams.

"I felt like that for the majority of the game it was a game that was up for grabs with two teams who were taking turns having their moments. Unfortunately, they struck first," said SIUE Head Coach Kevin Kalish. "Obviously it was a disappointing result losing 2-0. Give credit to Indiana. They found a way to win. They have a lot of special players. With that said, I thought there were moments in the game where we were quite good."

No. 16 Indiana improved to 5-1-1 behind second-half goals from Caleb Konstanski and Jacob Buschue.

Konstanski scored his second goal of the season, hitting the back post after a corner kick by A.J. Corrado at 55:55. Buschue added an insurance goal at 70:38.

Kent Kobernus was in goal for the Cougars and finished with three saves in his first collegiate start.

"I thought Kent Kobernus was good playing his first match on the road against Indiana. He was mistake free and had a quality performance," said Kalish.

SIUE pushed hard against Indiana goalkeeper Luis Soffner, who finished with six saves.

"We needed to be more clinical in the final third with our finishing," Kalish noted.

The Cougars and the Hoosiers were scoreless in the first half. SIUE's defense held Indiana to just one shot over the first 45 minutes.

"There were other moments we played well as a group, but again I was disappointed we couldn't find a way to get a result."

Jared Tejada collected two of his team-leading three shots in the first half. Christian Volesky, Brian Groark and Peter Kelly finished with two shots each.

SIUE has just a few days to get ready for its next opponent. The Cougars travel to Green Bay Tuesday to take on the Phoenix in a 7 p.m. contest.
