Cougars Impress at SEMO Dual

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The SIUE track and field team began their 2018-19 indoor campaign at the SEMO Dual Friday, with multiple Cougars winning their events and setting personal records.

On the men's side, SIUE's distance runner's Ben Scamihorn won the 3K (8:48.12) and Matthew O'Connor won the one mile (4:19.34).

In the men's long jump, SIUE's Conor McCarthy and Ethan Poston placed joint first with a leap of 21 feet-9 inches.

John Barnes placed first for the Cougars in the men's weight throw with a PR mark of 66-04.50, which is currently fourth best in the NCAA this season. Also throwing a PR was Austin Lynch (60-05.0)

SIUE's Jalea Paslay won the women's 800m with an indoor PR time of 2:23.40.

In the women's jumping events, SIUE's Nichyria Byrd took first in the long jump (18-00.25) and Brittney Gibbs won the triple jump (37-07.25).

The SIUE women's throwing team had a fantastic meet. Catherine Jakich won the women's shot put with a PR throw of (44-11.75). Jakich also hit a PR in the weight throw (51-11.75).

The Cougars will be back in action Jan. 19 where they will travel to Charleston, Illinois, for the EIU John Craft Invite.
