NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The SIUE track and field team completed the first day of the Meyo Invitational Friday. The meet is taking place at the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of Notre Dame.

SIUE's John Barnes placed second in the men's weight throw with a mark of 65 feet, nine inches. Coming into this weekend, Barnes sat first for the Ohio Valley Conference in the weight throw with a toss of 66-4.5.

Nichyria Byrd finished sixth for the Cougars in the women's long jump with a leap of 18-5.75.

Action will resume at the Invitational Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
