SIUE Track & Field Kick Off Indoor Season

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The SIUE track and field teams will get back to competition Friday after nearly a full year hiatus due to Covid-19.  The track and field team has an all new coaching staff since competing at the OVC Championships last February along with new recruits and many returning athletes.

"Indiana Tech's Warrior invite will be a great test for our student-athletes that have worked so hard this Fall," said head coach Marcus Evans. "For our field events and sprinters, this will be their first competition in 11 months. We expect strong performances from our jumpers, sprinters,  and our throwers. We are relieved this week is here and can't wait to represent "The E"," Evans continued.

The cross country teams will be cross-competing between their adjusted spring schedule and indoor track and field schedule for the first time ever.  Coach Evans believes the teams will benefit from having a competition under their belt.  "For our Distance athletes, this will be the second week in a row of competing after starting on the cross country course last week. We are looking for them to continue to grow as our season progresses and expect personal bests due to how they ran last week," said Evans.

The Warrior Invite will be distance coach Josh Wolfe's first indoor track meet with the Cougars, but will also be a return to where Wolfe previously coached.  "I am personally thrilled to be returning to the place I coached for the past decade. Our Cougar athletes will be tested by some of the best from other divisions in this early season test. I am mostly looking for them to shake the dust off, practice their warmup routines for getting ready to race, and support the whole track team. This is a great opening test for us," said distance coach Evans.

The Warrior Invite will offer live results and also a live stream to watch.
