LAST TIME
A balanced, strong offensive performance wasn't enough for SIUE Sunday. The Cougars concluded their time at the YSU Tournament with an 86-73 loss to St. Thomas. Both teams shot the ball well, but it was the Tommies' three-point shooting, specifically in the first half, that allowed them to pull away from the Cougars. Both sides connected on 50 percent of their shots. SIUE tied its season high with 30 made baskets. The 50 percent was a season-high for the Cougars.
SHARP SHOOTERS
SIUE has hit at least 45 percent of its shots in four games this year, with Sunday's game being its best at 50 percent. Last year, the Cougars' season-best was 58 percent against Tennessee Tech and SIUE shot at least 50 percent in a game eight different times.
ROAD WARRIORS
SIUE plays eight of its first nine games away from Edwardsville this year. With six road wins in 2020-21, SIUE set a new mark for road wins in a season in the Division I era.
TAYLOR FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Taylor was the OVC Freshman of the Week Nov. 15 after averaging 20.0 points per game in his first two games. He's now scored a career-best 24 points twice. He is fourth in the league in scoring at 16.8 points per game. Taylor is returning after missing last season with a torn right ACL. He is the all-time leading scorer at Collinsville High School with more than 2,100 points. He posted a 53-point game against Trinity (St. Louis) during his senior year.
WILLIAMS RETURNS
Cam Williams has played in three games and is averaging 12 minutes per game. The Knox game was his first game action since he sustained a torn (ACL) Jan. 30 at UT Martin. The Cougars' most experienced player, Williams has appeared in 74 games, while making 48 starts in his career.
