EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE and Western Illinois went back and forth for the first three sets before the Leathernecks claimed the win in set four.
The Cougars are now 8-7 overall and 3-1 in OVC play. The Leathernecks improve to 4-13 overall and 1-3 in OVC.
As a team SIUE had more kills (52), assists (47) and digs (78) than WIU. However, both teams had eight aces and eight blocks each.
Despite the outcome of the match,
Teagan Sullivan had a stand out performance highlighted by new career highs with 14 kills off of 33 attempts, four digs and two block assists.
Sophie Robinson also had a strong performance with a double-double, posting 10 kills and 18 digs. Both setters also had double-doubles.
Paige Bernstein 20 assists and 11 digs, while
Ally Hughes had 18 assists and 10 kills.
The Leathernecks were led by Keyana Cruse who had 12 kills and 17 digs.
