NEWTON, Kan. – SIUE golf took 19 strokes off its first-round score and moved up four spots after shooting a 283 (-5) Monday in the second round at Wichita State's Grier Jones Invitational.
The Cougars are tied for eighth with Omaha after shooting the fourth lowest round of any team during the day. Teams endured more than an hour delay because of rain and lightning in the afternoon.
St. Thomas leads the team tournament at five-under.
Tomas Rascon, playing as an individual, is tied for eighth at three-under. Rascon was four-under for the day, tying his low round at 68.
Will Simpson and Brady Kaufmann lead the SIUE team. They are tied at 21st at one-over. Kaufmann was one-under for the day. Simpson was one-over.
Parker Bruening, also playing as an individual, is tied for 40th at four-over.
Brent Reintjes is five-over and tied for 53rd. Max Bruening is seven-over and tied for 68th. Preston Bily is 10-over and tied for 79th.
The final round gets underway Wednesday morning at Sand Creek Station Golf Club.
