Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Raven Berry recorded
her fifth double-double of the season Tuesday as Southern Illinois
University Edwardsville women's basketball topped Tennessee State
70-60 at the Vadalabene Center.
Berry shot 7 of 9 from the field and finished with a team-high
20 points and 10 rebounds.
"She is a tremendous post player and is only going to get better
for us," said SIUE Head Coach Amanda Levens. "For
a long stretch in the second half, it seemed (Raven) got every
rebound defensively."
Jazmin
Hill added 16 points and now has made multiple three-pointers
in each of her last nine games.
SIUE improved to 4-12 with back-to-back home wins. The Cougars
are idle until next Monday when they entertain Eastern Kentucky in
a special 1 p.m. matinee game on Martin Luther King Day.
"Hopefully our team has turned the corner, and we can build on
this win. I think we are getting better and will continue to get
better," said Levens.
Tennessee State dropped to 5-11. Avery Jones led the Tigers with
16 points and nine rebounds.
The Cougars rallied from an early 15-8 deficit to take a 32-27
lead at halftime. SIUE hit the boards for eight offensive rebounds
in the first half and netted 10 points off second-chance
opportunities.
The Tigers would get within three at 34-31 with 17:54 to play on
a jumper by Meredith Stafford .
Hill then hit nothing but net on a pair of three-pointers over
the next two minutes to give SIUE a nine-point lead. The Cougars
did not look back after hitting 13 of 18 free throws in the second
half.
SIUE shot 39.7 percent from the field. Turnovers, once again,
was a key to the Cougars' success. SIUE forced 25 turnovers to make
it four straight games in which it has forced 20 or more
turnovers.
"Taking care of the ball and getting stops defensively really
turned the tide in our favor," Levens added.
Tennessee State hit 45.3 percent of its shots. Stafford was the
only other player in double figures for the Tigers with 13
points.
