EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Alli Reimer found the back of the net with just 61 seconds remaining in the regulation Sunday lifting Saint Louis to a 1-0 victory over SIUE in women's soccer at Korte Stadium.

The Cougars, now 3-3-1, lost for the first time in four games, despite outshooting the Billikens by a 17-6 margin.

"Yeah it's tough," SIUE Coach Derek Burton said. "The game can be tough sometimes and cruel. I felt like we dominated for long stretches of the game."

Reimer's goal came as a result of a corner kick. SIUE goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley made the initial save, but the Cougars defense failed to clear away the rebound.

"We had a crack at it to clear and we didn't," Burton said. "We have to do a better job of clearing the line and just getting the ball out of danger."

SIUE held a 7-2 advantage in shots in the first half. The Cougars then outshot the Billikens 10-4 over the final 45 minutes. Meagan Iffrig and Katye Skrivan had four shots each for the Cougars.

"We had trouble finding the back of the net with chances and opportunities, and it came back to bite us," Burton added. "We have the ability to create chances. We just have to start putting them in the back of the net."

Saint Louis improved to 2-4-2 thanks in part to goalkeeper Katie Walsh. Walsh made nine saves in the win for the Billikens.

SIUE now has a week before beginning Ohio Valley Conference play.

"Obviously we'd choose to be coming off a win," Burton said of entering conference play. "We've played really well. We've played a good team game and done what we've been looking to do in terms of how we want to play. Now we just need more of a finished product in terms of putting the ball in the back of the net."

The Cougars entertain Eastern Illinois in the OVC opener Sunday at 1 p.m.
