EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The SIUE men's tennis team dominated from start to finish in a 7-0 victory over Chicago State Saturday night at the Edwarsville YMCA.
The Cougars swept the singles competition, as Marten Jonsson, Nicolas Vincent, Jacob Perkins, Jacob Tanulanond, and Stephen Washuta all won in straight sets. Nico Kuehn also won via a tiebreak.
The duos of Jonsson and Kuehn as well as Dylan Reed and Patrick Gaffigan also won their respective matches in doubles play.
Head Coach Jason Coomer was pleased with the way Reed and Gaffigan played to give the Cougars the doubles point.
"Dylan stepped into the lineup and got us off to a good start in doubles," Coomer said. "Being a senior, Dylan brings alot of focus and leadership to the court. For Pat, he shows up ready to play every day and today his name was called. I'm really happy with the way he stepped up and executed in his doubles match."
With the win, SIUE moves to 5-1 on the season.
Next up for the Cougars is a trip to Orlando, Fla. next week for the team's spring break trip. SIUE will face Presbyterian Tuesday before facing off with St. Joseph's Wednesday.
"This is a good start to our spring break," Coomer added. "We wanted to go into Florida with some momentum and I think we did that."
