EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's tennis closes out the regular season this weekend with road matches at Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky.
SIUE faces Morehead State in an 11 a.m. CT match Friday. The final dual match of the regular season is Saturday at Eastern Kentucky. The first serve is set for 12:30 p.m. CT.
The Cougars, 8-12 overall and 4-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference, will be looking for a spot in next week's OVC Tournament. The top six teams advance to the postseason, and SIUE is in a three-way tie for fourth place with Jacksonville State and Morehead State. Belmont also looms just one-half match back.
"We have always had great matches with Morehead State in recent years, and I expect Friday's match to be a fight to the end," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer.
Two of SIUE's four wins in conference play have come on the road. The Cougars defeated Eastern Illinois 4-3 and Murray State 4-2.
"Our team understands the magnitude of the matches this weekend," said Coomer. "We have an opportunity to play ourselves into the postseason and can't sit back and hope for someone to help us get in."
Jack Desse leads the team with 13 singles victories this season. Patrick Gaffigan has a team-best 11 singles victories in dual matches. Both Desse and Lineberry are 5-2 in OVC singles matches.
