CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – SIUE men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Illini Challenge over the weekend. Several athletes set career bests in their respective events.
Throws:
Joel Degracia (15.09m, 49'6.26") and Luke Hatten (14.08m, 46'2.50") took sixth and seventh place in the men's weight throw. Allison Sanders grabbed a third-place finish in the women's weight throw with a 15.88m toss (52'1.25").
Maryiah Menicucci placed fourth in the women's shot put with a 12.24m throw. Hatten placed sixth in the men's event with a 14.04m toss.
Jumps:
Senior Savannah Sullivan took second place with a 5.58m (18'3.75") leap in the women's long jump for a new PR. Izzy Kennedy (5.37m, 17'7.50") took sixth place in the event.
Caden Belcher represented the men in the high jump and finished third (1.90m, 6'2.75"), good for a new PR.
Harper Smith competed in Saturday's high jump and finished second. Her 1.60m leap in the event was good for a career best.
Sprints and Hurdles:
Bobby Nuzzo represented the men in the 60m dash and placed third with a 7.00 time, just short of a career best. Cole Knapp's 9.25 time in the 60m hurdles took seventh place while Paris Somerville took eighth on the women's side (9.80).
Konrad Sacha competed in the men's 200m dash with a 22.93 time and fourth place finish, setting a new PR. On the women's side, Folasade Oladipupo placed eighth with a 26.34 time.
Konrad Sacha finished eighth in the men's 400m event with a 51.96 time.
Distance and Mid-Distance:
Gabrielle Horton finished fifth in the women's 800m with a 2:20.42 time. Her time set a new PR for the junior.
Roland Prenzler took first place in the men's 3000m run and finished with an 8:50.65 time.
In the women's 3000m, Kaitlyn Walker's 10:48.84 time was also good for a first-place finish.
Coach's Corner:
"For second week in a row we showed up against Big Ten competition and didn't back down," Head Coach Marcus Evans said. "We have been piecing together top three performances over the last few weeks. Our coaching staff is happy how the descending order list is shaping up for the OVC championship with our student-athletes in prime position to score across all event groups."
Up Next: SIUE will travel to Louisville, Kentucky for a one day meet at the PNC Bellarmine Classic.
