EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE track and field will travel to Champaign, Illinois for the Gary Wieneke Memorial. The Cougars are coming off a strong outing at the Cougar Classic last weekend where several athletes earned first-place finishes, set personal best times, and cracked the SIUE all-time leaderboard.
Friday's field events begin with the hammer throw at 11:30 am and conclude with the shot put at 3:00 pm. Friday's track events will start at 2:30 with the 3000m steeple and wrap up at 5:00 pm with the 5000m. Saturday's field events open at 11:00 am with the discuss and end at 2:00 pm with the high jump. Running events for Saturday kickoff with the 4x100m relay at 1:20 and wrap up with the 4x400m relay at 5:00 pm.
Senior Bobby Nuzzo enjoyed a pair of first place finishes last weekend in the 100m (10.78) and 200m (21.73). Paris Somerville, who was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Female Track Athlete of the Week, set a trio of PRs in the 100m, 200m, and 100m hurdles. Somerville's first-place finish and 14.21 time in the 100m hurdles ranks second in the OVC while stacking up fourth in SIUE program history. Vashanti Reynolds also excelled in the 100m hurdles with a 14.37 time, good for third in the league.
Maryiah Menicucci, who collected Female Freshman Athlete of the Week honors by the OVC, also earned a first-place finish in the women's shot put. Her 13.27m toss was good for a season best mark while ranking fifth in the conference. Kailah Carter finished first and set a PR in the women's 400m with a 56.30 mark. Her time is good for fourth in the OVC this season.
In the hammer throw, Dominika Baranska set a PR with a 53.28m toss, good for third in the OVC this season. Alexis Hutchins also set a PR in the hammer with a 50.67m toss, good for fourth in the conference.
The Cougars will travel to Memphis, Tennessee for their final meet of the outdoor season on Apr. 28 before hosting the OVC Track and Field Championship.
