EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE track and field prepares for the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship Feb. 24-25.
Events will take place at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Ky. This will be the first time the OVC will use this venue which opened in 2021. Athletes will be competing on a 200-meter banked Mondo indoor track. It is one of nine hydraulically banked indoor tracks in the United States (one of 12 in the world) and the only banked indoor track in the state of Kentucky.
The men's team finished seventh out of nine teams.
Tanner Emerson led the Cougars with a first-place finish in the men's 3000m with a time of 8:21.36, good for first in the program's all-time performances.
Last year women's track and field finished eighth among 11 teams. Top finishers for the women's team included
Maryiah Menicucci placing third in shot put (13.07m),
Zaria Searcy also had a third-place finish in the women's high jump (1.75m), and
Teagan Sullivan finished third in the long jump (5.73m).
Tuesday's events will begin at 9 a.m. ET combined events, leading with the heptathlon. Field events will kick off at noon with the men's long jump and men's weight throw at 1 p.m. Running events will begin at 3 p.m. with men's 60m hurdle trial. The day will conclude with the women's distance medley relay at 6:10 p.m.
Wednesday's events will start at 9 a.m. again with the pentathlon and follow with the heptathlon. Field events are set to start at 11 a.m. with the men's high jump and running events kick off at 12:30 p.m. with the men's mile.
