SIUE Wins QU's Soccer Bowl I

         QUINCY - It took a school-record 38 shots, but Southern Illinois University Edwardsville downed Northern Michigan in double overtime 2-1 to win Soccer Bowl I.
         SIUE improved to 2-0 as Sara Decker scored 54 seconds into the second overtime period on an assist from Colleen Creamer.
         The Cougars broke the school record for shots even before the overtime started, overpowering Northern Michigan with 35 shots in regulation. Only a Creamer goal at 59:07 was able to find the back of the net in regulation.
         Northern Michigan tied up the game at 70:29 as Rachel Vilders scored off a free kick from 20 yards out.
         Jessica Brown picked up her second win in as many games in goal for the Cougars. She faced just eight shots from Northern Michigan and collected four saves.
         Eleven different players recorded a shot. Freshman Sarah Landt came off the bench and led all players with seven shots. Creamer and Melissa Montgomery had six each while Decker had five.
         SIUE next travels to Erie, Penn., to take on regional rivals Mercyhurst on Friday and Gannon on Sunday.
