Minnesota State-Mankato rolled out to a three-goal lead and defeated Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 3-1 in the women's soccer season opener for both teams on Friday.
         SIUE picked up its only goal of the game at 71:54 as Lindsay Kampwerth scored a bomb from 30 yards out on an assist from Sarah Landt.
         Minnesota State-Mankato edged SIUE in shots 13-12 but clearly had it under control on the scoreboard.
         Kathleen Murphy scored first for the Mavericks at 9:43. Danni Klinsing scored the next two goals at 26:45 and 47:27
         SIUE's next action is Friday in a neutral site game in Indianapolis against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Cougars then face Grand Valley State at home next Sunday.
