Ann Crawford netted her team-leading sixth goal of the year to lift Southern Illinois University Edwardville past 10th-ranked Northern Kentucky 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer on Sunday afternoon.
         The Cougars are the first team to defeat the Norse in GLVC regular season play since October 9, 1999, when SIUE outlasted Norhtern Kentucky 3-1. SIUE also became the first team to shutout the Norse since Southern Indiana accomplished that feat on October 8, 1999. Northern Kentucky totaled a record of 40-0-5 during the unbeaten streak.
         SIUE improved to 4-0 in the GLVC and 6-3 overall, giving them sole possession of first place in the conference. Northern Kentucky fell to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the GLVC.
         Crawford gave the Cougars the lead at 21:26 of the first half, and Katie Yearian would add an insurance goal, her second tally of the year at the 82:34 mark of the second half. Kristine Armstrong finished off a solid weekend assisting on both goals in the contest. Armstrong had two goals and two assists during the two games this weekend.
         Senior goalkeeper Jessica Brown recorded her first shutout of the season for SIUE with eight saves.
         Northern Kentucky was led by goalkeeper Lauren Piening, who made six saves in the loss.
         The win was the Cougar's fifth victory in a row and the second time the Cougars have knocked off a top-10 team this season. They outlasted then 7th-ranked Ashland 1-0 on September 12.
         SIUE will be at home to face non-conference opponent William Woods on Wednesday at 7 p.m at Korte Stadium. The Cougars go on the road to take on Wisconsin Parkside on Friday at 3:30 p.m., following that up with a contest at St. Joseph's on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
