Butler Hits NCAA Provisional Mark

        Christine Butler (Matteson), a freshman, broke the school record and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the long jump at the Cougar Classic.
        Competing in her home facility, Butler leaped 19 feet, 1.5 inches (5.83 meters).
        As a team, SIUE literally ran away with the meet, scoring 311 points. Its nearest competitor in the seven-team field was Greenville College with 122 points. SIUE won 14 events and finished with the top three in three different events.
        Lee Ann Lomax posted SIUE's best times of the season in the 800 and 1,500 meters. She ran the 800 in 2 minutes, 16.90 seconds. Her time in the 1,500 was 4:43.32.
        The Cougars also picked up season bests by Shavon Shegog in the 100, Julia Scherer in the 400, Amanda White in the 3,000, Jenny Jaquez in the 400 hurdles, and Butler in the triple jump. All three of SIUE's relay events also posted season bests.
