EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE Track and Field heads to Champaign, Ill. for the fourth-annual Gary Wieneke Memorial on Friday-Saturday (May 1-2) in Demirjian Park.
The Cougars were last seen at the Jim Freeman / Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Ky. where they built momentum and saw improving results.
"We are coming back with great confidence from last weekend's meet," Head Coach
Marcus Evans said. "Our team took advantage of great weather conditions and improved several marks to become competitive for the OVC. Each event group stepped up last weekend. As we gear up for our last regular season meet, we are looking to keep this upward trend going."
Zaria Searcy now ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference in the women's high jump. She placed seventh overall at 1.68m marking her best jump of the weekend.
Mia Jackson is second in the OVC in the women's 100 hurdles. Last weekend she finished 15th overall with a time of 14.03.
Simon McClaine also had a standout performance last weekend finishing ninth in the men's 400 hurdles (54.35) and 10th in the 110 hurdles (14.65). McClaine now ranks fourth in the OVC for the 400 hurdles and eighth in the 110 hurdles. Nathaniel Wright finished 12 in the men's 800m (1:53.78) and now ranks 10th in the OVC.
Events will start on Friday at 12 p.m. with the men's and women's javelin and end with the men's and women's triple jump at 2:15. Running events will begin shortly after at 1:00 p.m. with the 400m hurdles and conclude at 3:00 p.m. with the 200m.
Saturday's events will begin at 12 p.m. again with the men's and women's high jump and end with the long jump at 2:45 p.m. Running events are set to start at 2:30 p.m. with the 100m and end around 3:45 p.m. with the 4x400m.
