QUINCY - Kristine Armstrong and Amy Million scored as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's soccer blanked Quincy 2-0 to open the Great Lakes Valley Conference season.
         SIUE improved to 3-2 on the season. The Cougars next face Trinity International in a 5 p.m. matchup at Korte Stadium on Friday.
         Armstrong scored her first goal of the season unassisted at 20:39, dribbling several yards past Hawk defenders before scoring past Quincy goalkeeper Lindsay Ringkamp.
         SIUE outshot the Hawks 16-3, but Quincy kept the game close until Million connected on her third goal of the season with two minutes to play. Million headed the ball in on a restart from Elizabeth Valenti, who collected her third assist of the season.
         Kaci Backs had two saves for SIUE and earned the shutout. It was the freshman's first complete-game shutout of her career.
