Valenti, Cougars Advance With 3-0 Win

         Elizabeth Valenti turned on the offense Saturday as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's soccer advanced in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a 3-0 victory over UW-Parkside.
         SIUE, the No. 3 seed, advances in the GLVC Tournament to face the winner of second-seeded Bellarmine and seventh-seeded Missouri-St. Louis. That game is scheduled for Sunday at noon in Louisville, Ky. The semifinals and finals of the GLVC Tournament will be held at the site of the top remaining seed. Quincy is the No. 1 seed.
         Valenti pounded her first shot of the game past UWP goalkeeper Erica Higuchi at 6:42 from 15 yards out. Valenti hit the upper right corner off a pass from Correen Roark.
         SIUE added to its lead at 30:45 when Valenti scored from five yards out on a pass from Katie Yearian. In the second half, Yearian provided another assist as Kayla Fromme hit the bottom of the cross bar and then the net at 64:25.
         After tieing earlier this season 0-0 in Kenosha, Wis., the Cougar defense held UW-Parkside to nine shots. The Cougar offense provided 11 shots.
         SIUE goalkeepers Kim Roady and Kacin Backs combined for SIUE's ninth shutout of the season.
