Jenny Kates and Elizabeth Valenti scored goals Wednesday as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville blanked Missouri-Rolla in Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer action.
         SIUE moved back above the .500 mark with a 4-3-1 record and a 2-2-1 in GLVC play. Missouri-Rolla, playing on its new home field for the first time this season, fell to 0-9 and 0-4 in the GLVC/
         Kates gave the Cougars a 1--0 lead at 39:58 when she stole the ball from the UM-Rolla defense and sprinted toward a break-away past UMR goalkeeper Brittany Parker.
         Valenti added an insurance goal at 67:06 with a shot from 18 yards out off a pass from Correen Roark.
         SIUE goalkeepers Kaci Backs and Kim Roady shared the duties in the nets, combining for the shutout. The duo had six saves. Parker fended off 18 SIUE shots and collected 10 saves.
         The Cougars return home Friday for a GLVC matchup against Rockhurst. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Korte Stadium.
