ST. LOUIS - Jenny Kates scored in the 72nd minute as 23rd-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville defeated Missouri-St. Louis 3-2 in women's college soccer action Wednesday at Don Dallas Field.
         Kates scored at 71:54 as Elizabeth Ball restarted with a free kick from an UMSL foul. The Cougars dominated in the second half by outshooting UMSL 8-2.
         SIUE, 3-1 and 1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, went into the second half tied with the Riverwomen as the two teams scored twice in the first 32 minutes of play.
         UMSL, 2-3 and 0-1 in the GLVC, picked up a pair of goals from Rachel Lee. Her first was at 2:07 from 10 yards out on an assist by Sierra Ellis. Down 2-1 later in the half, Lee tied the score at 31:15 on an assist by Amy Fox.
         SIUE scored its first goal at 14:15 as Jennifer Kratzer deflected a ball off an UMSL defender and past UMSL goalkeeper Mary Behrmann.
         UMSL's Behrmann also allowed a goal from SIUE's Kayla Fromme at 26:03.
         UMSL sent Courtney Carmody in goal for the second half. She picked up four saves but could only watch as Kates scored the game-winner.
         SIUE goalkeeper Kim Roady recorded the win with two saves. SIUE outshot UMSL for the game 15-6 and dominated on corner kicks 9-0.
         The Cougars now return to Korte Stadium for a Friday GLVC matchup against Bellarmine. Game time is 5 p.m.
