SIUE Women's Soccer Takes Over First Place

         EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Elizabeth Valenti scored her first career hat trick Sunday as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's soccer posted a 3-1 victory over No. 21-ranked Quincy at Korte Stadium.
         The junior midfielder from Overland Park, Kan., was the clear star of the game as SIUE took over sole possession of first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
         Sunday's victory over Quincy was the seventh consecutive victory for SIUE. The Cougars ran their record to 10-3-1 overall and 9-2 in the GLVC. Quincy fell out of a first-place tie with the Cougars to second place with an 8-3 record in league play and an 11-4-1 record overall.
         Valenti's first score was from 18 yards out at the top of the penalty box at 24:37. Kelly Limpert tapped the ball to Valenti, who blasted it past QU goalkeeper Tony Eye
         SIUE extended its lead to 2-0 when Valenti scored unassisted on a shot from 30 yards out. Valenti scored once more from five yards out from Kiara Akpore at 80:20.
         Quincy avoided the shutout with 2:55 to play when Becky Fleming scored her 10th goal of the season from 10 yards out.
         The Cougars outshot Quincy 16-9 in the game.
         SIUE travels for its final two regular season games to Saint Joseph's and Indianapolis next Friday and Sunday. With Sunday's win, SIUE earned the right to play host at Korte Stadium to a first-round GLVC Tournament game on Sunday, Oct. 28, against an opponent to be determined.
