Cougars Grab Top Seed for GLVC Tournament

         RENSSELAER, Ind. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will be the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Tournament after a 1-0 victory Friday night at Saint Joseph's.
         Elizabeth Valenti, the GLVC's Player of the Week for women's soccer, came up big once again with the game's only goal. It was unassisted for the 17th-ranked Cougars just 4:50 into the game.
         Saint Joseph's outshot the Cougars in both halves and 12-10 for the game, but it was Valenti's early-goal that put SIUE over the top.
         Kaci Backs earned the win in goal, collecting six saves.
         With the win, SIUE has now won eight straight games and improved to 11-3-1 overall with a 10-2 record in league play. With one regular season game left at Indianapolis Sunday, the Cougars hold a one-game lead over Quincy. Since SIUE defeated Quincy last week in a head-to-head battle, the Cougars have clinched the regular season title and will be the top seed for the GLVC Tournament.
