COLUMBIA, Mo. - Eric Mammoser and Dana Fischer each broke pole vault records for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Friday at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge.
Mammoser broke the record set by Anthony Weber set in 2005. His leap of 16 feet 1.25 edged the record by a half-inch. Mammoser had shared the record with his leap from last week.
Fischer broke Sarah Turpin's record with a jump of 10-0.5.
Pole vault wasn't the only event that was had its records rewritten. Coreen Ellis further deepened her list of record by taking out the 1,000-meter record. She became the first Cougar to break the three-minute mark with a time of 2:58.79. The old record was held by Colleen Casey, who ran in the U.S. Olympic Trials in the marathon in 2008.
SIUE also won a pair of events at the Collegiate Challenge. The list includes Marcus Evans at 400 meters and Megan Dennis in the triple jump. Dennis' leap of 38-9.75 was a season best.
