CARBONDALE, Ill. - Aftan Noon (Forsyth) bested her 800-meter performance by nearly four seconds Saturday and won the event at the McDonald's Classic.

Noon ran the event in 2 minutes, 14.81, besting the field by nearly four seconds.

SIUE finished fifth in a field of six teams at the event held at Southern Illinois Carbondale. Host SIU won the event with 207.5 points followed by Memphis with 89.5, Murray State with 47.5, Central Arkansas with 40, SIUE with 32.5 and Indiana with 14.

The SIUE 1,600-meter relay of Noon, Elisha Crawley (Decatur), Megan Dennis (Country Club Hills) and Michelle Higgins (Aurora) took third place in a time of 4:04.92. That topped SIUE's previous season best by a full seven seconds.

Dennis added a second-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 3.25 inches.

Higgins also turned in a personal best in the long jump. Her second-place jump was 18-3.75.

The Cougars next travel to Allendale, Mich., for a two-day meet beginning next Friday at Grand Valley State.
