SIUE Track and Field Breaks Three School Records

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Three SIUE performances were school records Saturday as the Cougars played host to the Inaugural Gateway Classic.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Dana Fischer broke her own record in the pole vault. She finished fourth in her event and cleared 10 feet, 2 inches.

Aftan Noon set her second school record in as many weeks. This time she topped the 800-meter run in a winning time of 2 minutes, 10.46 seconds. The old record was 2:12.32 set by Ann Miklovic in 2000. Noon won the event for the Cougars by nearly five seconds.

Chris Littleton broke the 200-meter record for the Cougar men with a winning time of 21.30. Littleton broke the record set by Kyle Rose (21.39) set in 2008. Alphonso Shepherd also posted a personal best with a 21.43, placing second. Littleton was a double winner Saturday as he posted the best time of the season in the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 10.76.

Eastern Illinois and SIUE finished 1-2 in the team scoring for both the men and the women. Eastern Illinois scored 234 points in the women's events with SIUE coming in with 112.50. Saint Louis (108) was third and was followed by North Dakota (101), Bradley (53.5) and Wisconsin (12).

On the men's side, EIU edged SIUE 162-149. SLU (102) finished in third place. Wisconsin (74), North Dakota (40) and Bradley (19) followed.

Kaya Senaya turned in her season best at 100 meters in 12.03 and at 200 meters in 24.81. Valery Taylor recorded her best leap of the season in the long jump at 18-9.75. Freshman Colleen McDonough tossed the best throw of the season in the hammer (155-4).

Marc Presley turned in the best 800-meter men's time of the season. He took third place in 1:56.59. Shawn Dillard bested his season-low in the 1,500-meter run with a third-place finish of 4:04.22. Aaron Werths improved his season-best time at 10,000 meters in 33:10.38. Maurice Jackson took over as the top triple jumper for the Cougars, recording a season-best mark of 46-5.5.

SIUE's schedule includes a second home meet of the season next week. SIUE plays host to the Twilight Invite next Saturday at Korte Stadium.
