EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Heavy thunderstorms in Edwardsville split
up the SIUE Twilight Open, but that didn't put a damper on senior
day for the Cougars.
The list of SIUE seniors includes Marcus Evans
(Skokie), Eric
Eyler (Rushville), Sean Gosewisch
(Homer Glen), Chris Littleton
(Champaign), Alphonso
Shepherd (Dayton, Ohio), Steven Werths (Granite City), Breanna Branson
(Nilwood), Kayla
Brown (Petersburg), Megan Dennis (Country
Club Hills), Heather Hackel
(Decatur), and Jennie Satterlee
(Staunton).
Gosewisch closed out his home events by running the 5,000-meter
run and then requesting to run the final leg of the 1,600-meter
relay.
SIUE won 14 events at the meet with seven each for the men and
women. The list includes Aftan Noon in the 800
and the 1,500, Kaya Senaya in the 100
and the 200, Kayla
Brown in the 3,000, Valery Taylor in the
long jump, Colleen
McDonough in the shot put, Marc Presley in the
800, Marcus
Evans in the 400 hurdles, Tony Bowman in the
200, Marc
Amarillas in the 5,000, Eric Mammoser in the
pole vault, Ben
Bishop in the hammer throw, and Kaleb Henry in the
javelin.
Taylor's jump also was a school record. She took a winning leap
of 19 feet, 3.5 inches.
The 400-meter relay team of Andrew Thierry, Tony Bowman, Alphonso
Shepherd, and Chris Littleton
broke the school record in a time of 41.45.
