BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - In what turned out to be a dual meet, SIUE collected a school record on a windy afternoon meet with Western Kentucky.
Aftan Noon broke the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville outdoor 1,500-meter record with a time of 4 minutes, 30.86 seconds. Noon won the race, which included a fourth-place finish by Kayla Brown (4:44.11). Heather Hackel and Rachel Roustio each ran personal bests in the event.
The meet was supposed to be the Hilltopper Relays but became a dual meet with several teams dropped out of what was a two-day meet.
SIUE recorded several personal bests at the meet and won numerous events.
The event winners included Ben Bishop who started the day with a win in the hammer throw with a toss of 201 feet, 9 inches. Bishop also won two other events -- the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, which places him third on the all-time SIUE list, and the discus with a throw of 154-9.
Eric Mammoser won the pole vault at 15-7. The foursome of Andrew Thierry, Tony Bowman, Alphonso Shepherd, and Chris Littleton crossed victorious in the 400-meter relay at 41.46. Kaleb Henry dominated the field in the javelin with a winning throw of 189-6. Mallory Dreyer matched his effort with a win in the women's javelin with a personal-best throw of 123-5. Marc Presley collected a victory at 800 meters in 1:58.58. Marcus Evans was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles in 52.94.
