EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Despite volatile weather at Korte Stadium, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's track and field team won nine events at the Twilight Invitational.

The day opened with a rain delay and ended with a lightning delay that lengthened the men's hammer throw event. The women's events concluded before 5 p.m. with a good day for Cougar track and field.

"Today was a tremendous group effort from start to finish," said SIUE Head Coach Kareem Jackson. "Nobody lost their focus which is something you worry about when you have breaks in track meets."

Sophomore Colleen McDonough was a double winner for the Cougars. She was the victor in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 11.75 inches, a personal best. McDonough also took honors in the hammer throw with a toss of 161 feet, also a season-best for the Cougars.

Michelle Higgins was victorious twice in the jumps. Her long jump winning mark was 17-9 while she triumphed in the triple jump with a leap of 39-0.5.

Kristen Wykoff helped the Cougars take another field event with a win in the discus. She outdistanced her competition by more than 13 feet with a winning throw of 130-5.

Freshman Hilary Conrad ran a personal best at 400 meters with a winning time of 56.15.

Dede Lofton was involved in the closest race of the day. She took honors at 800 meters with a winning time of 2:16.01, edging Saint Louis' Dana Siebenaller by .02 seconds.

Shanice Rice was the winner in the 400-meter hurdles. Her winning time was 1:06.64.

Elisha Crawley joined Conrad, Lofton, and Rice for the win in the 1,600-meter relay. Their winning mark was 3:56.99.

"We're getting closer to the team we want to be," Jackson said. "I'm really proud of how focused this group was."
