Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Iowa State raced out to a 4-0 lead then cruised to a 6-1 win over SIUE in a women's soccer exhibition match Saturday night at Korte Stadium.
"A preseason game is just that," SIUE Head Coach Derek Burton said. "We came out tentative and it showed."
The Cyclones built a 4-0 lead within the first 26 minutes and led 4-0 at half.
Freshman forward Michelle Auer (St. Louis) had the only tally for the Cougars, getting SIUE on the board in the 34th minute. Auer took a through ball from Sarah Doggendorf and scored on shot from 20 yards out to the far post. Auer's goal made it 4-1.
The game was the second win of the day for Iowa State, which had beaten SEMO earlier in the day in an exhibition in St. Louis. The Cyclones got a pair of goals from Megan Long. Mary Kate McLaughlin had two assists for Iowa State.
SIUE will open the regular season Friday night in Kansas City, Mo. with a game against Youngstown State.
