Jan. 14, 2012

Final Results

LINCOLN, Neb. - The SIUE women's track and field team closed the second day of the Holiday Inn Invitational Saturday with 11 finishes in the top ten at Devaney Sports Center.

"We were encouraged with what we saw from the team as a whole," said SIUE Head Coach Kareem Jackson. "We will only run, jump, and throw as well as we practice, and we have to get better at learning how to duplicate speed."

Colleen McDonough started the day finishing fourth overall in the shot put tossing 43 feet, 10.5 inches while freshman Elizabeth Hampl was right behind the Cougar captain in fifth with a mark of 43-8.

Michelle Higgins (36 feet, 5.5 inches) and Jatavia Wright (36-2) both recorded top-ten finishes in the triple jump placing seventh and ninth, respectively.

The duo also reached the finals of the 60 hurdles but it was the freshman Wright leading the way with a second-place finish in a time of 8.73 seconds. Higgins crossed the finish line in 9.17 to place fifth.

Jasmine Ranson cleared 5-3 in the high jump earning a sixth-place finish.

Jasmine Johnson (59.11) and Hilary Conrad (59.29) finished side-by-side in the 400 meters atop their heat in the finals placing seventh and eighth, respectively.

Running the distance medley relay for the first time this season, the group of Dede Lofton, Conrad, Ioana Citireag, and Aftan Noon placed second with a time of 12:29.33.

Conrad, Wright, Johnson, and Kaya Senaya teamed up to finish sixth in the 4x400 relay in a time of 4:02.83.

"We will get some much needed rest over the next couple days then get ready for our next meet at the University of Illinois," added Jackson.

The Cougars return to the track at the Illini Classic Jan. 20 and 21.
