SIUE Throwers Put on Dominating Display at Titan Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - For the second week in a row, the SIUE throwers led the way to second place for the women at the Illinois Wesleyan Titan Open Saturday with only seven athletes competing. The men placed fourth overall.

"Our throwers lit it up," said SIUE Head Coach Kareem Jackson. "The numbers speak for themselves."

The trio of Colleen McDonough, Kristin Wykoff, and Elizabeth Hampl were the top finishers in both the shot put and weight throw.

McDonough won the shot put with a personal-best mark of 45 feet, 3 inches while Wykoff won the weight throw tossing an even 53 feet. Her career-best performance leads the Ohio Valley Conference.

The distance medley relay continued the winning ways as it claimed top honors finishing in a time of 13 minutes, 32.24 earning 10 team points for the Cougars.

Megan Petty ran a personal best for SIUE in the 800 meters placing third overall in 2:27.35

Lacey Hainline also finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.38.

For the men, Jerraco Johnson and Forrest Knight finished one-two in the 55 hurdles leading SIUE to fourth place overall. Johnson won with a time of 7.91 seconds while Knight was on his heels in 7.94.

Knight also placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 51.46.

The male throwers shared similar success as the women placing the top three competitors in the shot put led by Jamil Mashni's winning throw of 51-2.25. Greg Block (46-8) and Kaleb Henry (46-4.75) finished second and third, respectively.

Rickie Walls earned a fifth-place finish in the long jump leaping 20-10.

"It was good for all of them to get some confidence going," added Jackson.

SIUE continues its indoor season Feb. 9-11 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
