BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Highlighted by a record-setting performance by its 4x800 relay team, the SIUE women's track and field team finished day two of the Indiana Relays Saturday at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse.

"I thought the distance and mid-distance runners led the charge," said SIUE Head Coach Kareem Jackson. "They ran with a lot of energy and it is nice to see them perform well. They raced smart and the rest of the team will look to build on that."

Dede Lofton, Aftan Noon, Claire Brown, and Ioana Citireag broke the record set back in 2004 with a time of 9 minutes, 29.60 seconds to put the relay ninth overall at the meet.

Lofton carried the winning ways over from Friday where she won the seeded 600 meters in 1:33.79 to lead three Cougars in the event's top six. Her time ranks second all-time at SIUE. Citireag (1:34.94) and Noon (1:36.24) placed third and sixth, respectively.

"They showed the versatility of our program. It's the sign of a good team," added Jackson.

Saturday, Citireag ran a personal best in the 800 meters to place third in the seeded section with a time of 2:13.50.

SIUE continues its indoor season Feb. 9-11 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
